Rad- und Wanderwege
Zu den herausragenden Wanderwegen gehört im west-
lichen Landkreis der „Weg des Lebens“, ein etwa 50 km
langer Radweg, der die Spuren der Erdgeschichte auf-
zeigt. Er führt durch das Stadgebiet von Eschenbach
und durch das Gemeindegebiet von Speinshart. Eine
Infostelle des Naturparks ist neuerdings auch in der Wies-
kapelle in Speinshart eingerichtet. Hinzu kommen der
Walderlebnispfad („Holzweg“) mit naturverbundenen
Spiel- und Spaßstationen und der Klettergarten an der
Kläranlage Eschenbach. Auch die Wanderwege rund
um den Rauhen Kulm begeistern viele Wanderfreunde.
Vom Kloster Speinshart führt ein historischer Wallfahrts-
weg (etwa 3 km), der von barocken Heiligenfiguren
gesäumt ist, hinauf auf den Barbaraberg. Dieser Weg
ist bei Pilgern sehr begehrt.
„Hexenhäusl“
Die Infostelle „Hexenhäusl“ wurde 2012 neu erbaut.
Neben modernen, barrierefreien Sanitärräumen, einer
zweckmäßig eingerichteten und gutbürgerlichen Gastro
nomie dient das Haus vor allem als Infostelle für alle
Besucher der Rußweiherstadt.
Im Erdgeschoss kann der Gast aus den unterschiedlichsten
touristischen Prospekten des gesamten Landkreises aus-
wählen, im Dachgeschoss befinden sich aufwändige
Dauerausstellungen des Naturparks Nördlicher Ober
pfälzer Wald sowie des Geoparks Bayern-Böhmen. In
Kürze wird dort auch ein Livestream eines Fischadler-
horstes, der sich im Naturschutzgebiet Großer Rußweiher
befindet, übertragen.
Cycling and hiking trails
An outstanding hiking trail is the “Path of Life“, a 50 km
long bike trail which illustrates the history of life. The
trail runs through the town of Eschenbach and the
municipality Speinshart. A new information point has
recently been set up in the Wieskapelle chapel. In
addition, there is the adventure trail “Holzweg” which
has stops for games and fun connected to nature and a
rope course close to the sewage plant in Eschenbach.
Ramblers are also enthusiastic about the hiking trails
around the mountain Rauher Kulm. A historic pilgrimage
route (about 3 km) lined with baroque figures of saints
runs from the monastery Speinshart up to the hill
Barbaraberg. This route is very popular among pilgrims.
“Hexenhäusl“
The information center “Hexenhäusl“ was newly constructed
in 2012. It includes modern, barrier-free sanitary facilities,
a functionally equipped restaurant serving regional food,
and serves as information center for all visitors of the town
at the lake Rußweiher.
On the ground floor guests can choose from a wide range
of touristic brochures of the whole region while on the top
floor you can visit sophisticated permanent exhibitions of
the Northern Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park and the
geopark Bavaria-Bohemia. Soon you will be able to see
a livestream from an osprey nest, a rare bird, now nesting
and breeding in the nature resort Großer Rußweiher.
